Battle For The Strait of Hormuz is a free naval strategy game you play in your browser. It takes the pencil-and-paper hidden-fleet guessing game and turns it into political satire about a war nobody asked for, fought mostly over the price of gas.
At heart it's a game of logic and nerve: hide your fleet, then find the enemy's before they find yours. Around that sits a six-battle Campaign in which the rules change with the story. You'll fight to drag oil prices down, build up a margin for a presidential toll booth, hunt a spy boat disguised as a fishing trawler during a ceasefire, and win the final battle on rationed ammunition.
If you want the plain game, Classic Battle uses the traditional rules, either against the computer or against real players online. The Daily Challenge gives everyone the same hidden fleet each day and ranks players by how few shots they need to sink it. See How to Play for the full rules.
The Strait of Hormuz is a real and important shipping lane, but everything in this game is fiction. The story, the quotes and the events are invented. Characters that resemble real public figures are caricatures used for parody and commentary, and the game isn't endorsed by or affiliated with anyone it depicts. The jokes are aimed at the absurdity of war and the politics around it, not at the people who actually serve at sea.
The game was designed and built by Paul Danowski Design Studio, an independent design studio. It was first released in September 2026 and keeps growing: the Daily Challenge and leaderboards were added soon after launch.
The grid-guessing game is a classic that predates any brand. This game is independently made and isn't affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Hasbro, Inc.
